I meant to start this on May 1st 2009, but it didn't happen. I live in a ski resort called Serre Chevalier in the French Alps and I play in a band, mostly during the ski season. The band is a very boozy affair which is really not conducive with my lose weight in a month plan!
May would have been a good choice as month to lose weight, but I had other things on my mind as my wife was 8 months pregnant with our second daughter and I was worried about money, time management, the baby and our house being too small to fit four people.
Now all of a sudden the ski season is less than 2 months away and I really want to be a lot more in shape by the time the season starts. It's October 12th today and my aim is to lose 10kg by the beginning of December. So I figure if I were to aim for 5kg per month that would be good.
So what am I doing to try and lose weight?
I have 3 main problems:
1) I drink too much. I live in France where wine is cheap, plentiful and lovely. I also drink quite a lot of cider and beer which obviously doesn't help.
2) I do very little exercise. I've never been very good at sport and as a consequence I don't do much. I do like cycling and I swim a bit, but not much else, this is going to have to change.
3) I do occasionally eat quite badly - when I get the chance I quite like bacon and eggs for example. If we are out somewhere and everyone gets a bit hungry, I wouldn't think twice about having burger and chips or steak and chips. I like cheese too which is gonna be a problem.
So my plan is to tackle one of these aspects each day, so for example today I drank no alcohol. The number of alcohol free days I have had this year can be counted on my fingers, so a step in this direction is really going to help. As alcohol is my main vice I have tried to avoid thinking about it by writing this blog.
My weight today after having breakfast, lunch and with clothes was a frightening 86.4kg
